It’s one of those things we all logically knew would be happening. After all, against all odds, Deadpool went on to become the most successful thing to come out of Fox’s ownership of the X-Men franchise. With two solid, critically-acclaimed and financially-successful movies under its belt, it would seem obvious that Disney would continue the legacy.

But, with Disney, you never know. Their family-friendly legacy is very important, and as such, the character’s foul mouth wasn’t always guaranteed. So, what’s the deal with Deadpool?

It sounds like they are officially hard at work at Disney, as Reynolds revealed to Live With Kelly and Ryan.

“Yeah, we’re working on it right now with a whole team,” he said on Christmas Eve on the morning show. “We’re working at Marvel now, which is like the big leagues, all of a sudden, which is crazy.”

Reynolds himself did not specify what was next for the Merc with a Mouth, but originally, he was supposed to be leading the X-Force in a film directed by Drew Goddard. Reynolds did seem to think they needed to shake things up for a third movie, some time ago, as the process of taking everything away from Deadpool doesn’t really work a third time. 

“I really don’t know if there will be a ‘Deadpool 3,’ I really don’t,” he told EW back in May of 2018. “I feel like the character, in order for him to function properly within his own universe, you need to take everything away from him. I don’t think that you can keep doing that.”
