Finally, Tom Cruise will be launching into space.
Tom Cruise and crazy stunt shenanigans go together like PB and J. Over the past several years, he’s seemingly had a death wish, one-upping himself in virtually every film he does. As recently as Mission: Impossible – Fallout, he broke his ankle in the midst of doing a stunt. In the years since then, it’s been almost a punchline that he’d be headed to space. And all official signs as of late have pointed him to doing just that.
However, just in case you were still in the business of doubting Tom Cruise and his affinity for one-upsmanship, it’s now official. As reported by TMZ, Cruise will be hopping onboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon rocket and capsule in October 2021. And while I’m sure he’d love to do that just for fun, his trip to the international space station will be in service of an actual film.

Cruise will be working with Doug Liman, who made Edge of Tomorrow with the actor several years back. While the details aren’t super clear, the outlet does state that the action-adventure movie will be filmed aboard the ISS. It would be a heck of a feat if they manage to film the majority of the movie on the space station, but as I said, we don’t have a lot of details to that effect.
Regardless, this all seems like a natural step in the traditionally-crazy direction for Cruise. The man has slowly been making his way up through the skies, so it was inevitable. Now we need to have them make an entire movie on the actual moon. Until that happens, I guess we’ll just have to settle for Tom Cruise in space.
