Star Trek is a franchise that’s always been the subject of countless ups and downs. It’s never one to take the easy path to production, and while the most recent Star Trek reboot film series has received plenty of critical acclaim, the box-office performance of the last one, Star Trek Beyond, caused the studio to pump the brakes a bit so that they could reassess the best way to move forward.

As a result, it’s been a bit since Star Trek Beyond hit theaters, and while we’ve heard rumblings about a Star Trek 4, and even a film from Quentin Tarantino, there has been little actual solid movement. Speaking with Sirius XM, one of the franchise stars, Zachary Quinto gave an update on the next Trek film.

“I think we’re going to know more in the next few weeks, actually. There is a fourth movie that’s being developed right now. They’ve brought a director, who’s actually a wonderful woman I’ve worked with before named SJ Clarkson into the mix to develop and to helm that project. It’s now kind of in the business logistical kind of phase.”

But what about the Tarantino flick? How does that fit into this whole deal?

“That would be the one after this one, which I think is also still in the works. He’s doing his Charles Manson movie this summer, so we’ll do this one now, and that one down the line.”

So there you have it. While most of this news isn’t exactly new, the big update here for me is that we are likely to hear something new regarding the film in the next few weeks…does that mean we can expect to hear something at San Diego Comic-Con? Hm…
