At the end of January, Ben Affleck let it be known, via Twitter, that he was hanging up the cape and cowl. Fans and detractors have reacted to the news, but today, we got to hear from an important voice in this story, director Zack Snyder.
Snyder, who once wrote that Ben Affleck was his “perfect Batman,” took to Vero to express his feelings about the recent announcement, reciting a Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice quote from “the Best Batman ever”.

If the image that accompanies the poem is any indication, I think it’s safe to say that Snyder is sad about the announcement. To be quite honest, I am, as well. While I wasn’t a fan of the movies, Affleck and Snyder certainly brought something great to the role. I certainly would have liked to see Affleck carry on in the part with Reeves.
While on Kimmel, Affleck stated that he “couldn’t crack it,” referring to his attempt to write a script for the solo Batman film. This was actually surprising to hear, as Jay Oliva, DC animation director, said that he’d read Affleck’s script and it was the best Batman script he’d read. This statement was seconded by Slade Wilson actor, Joe Manganiello.
Hi Bill! The original Affleck script was the best Batman script I’ve ever read. Ben had a kick ass story and I believe that the audience and fans would have loved it.

That’s high praise coming from Oliva. It’ll be interesting to see what Reeves comes up with.
The Batman is being written and directed by Matt Reeves. No plot details or actors have been announced. The film is expected to hit theaters June 25, 2021.
