The Snyder Cut Justice League news keeps coming. Personally, I love it! I know many don’t like the dark tone Snyder uses for the DCEU. Me however, growing up on Tim Burton’s Batman films, I say bring it! Plus, DC’s characters aren’t Marvels. I always felt the DCEU needed to choose a tone and stick with it. From the news and the trailers, excitement is an understatement for the Snyder Cut. Seeing the entire vision in juxtaposition to the rushed, hodgepodge is quite intriguing. Two characters that I was disappointed to not see, or really even mention much, was Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter. Cyborg is good, but growing up in the 80s and 90s, those two characters were Justice League staples. Harry Lennix plays General Swanwick in the DCEU. He confirms that he is in fact Martian Manhunter. Zack Snyder reveals why the character is on Earth.
Many fans thought General Swanwick could potentially be J’onn J’onzz. His human form is an subtle, but intricate presence in Man of Steel and BvS. So, why does he make the big reveal on Earth? Zack Snyder comments on 1 Minutemen:
“I think that Martian Manhunter is an example, and maybe Superman frankly, the rest of the Justice League, [an] example of fighting for what they believe might be part of the reason we’re sort of seeing Martian Manhunter out in his true form, at this point.”
He goes on to add:
“Also, the threat of Darkseid is pretty [great]. Not to say that Earth wasn’t in peril before, but this one, it feels like you can’t watch it burn anymore.”

One of Snyder’s storyboards displays the J’onzz posing as Martha Kent in a conversation with Lois Lane. And, as we know, she is the key. So, this has been in the making for some time. Like Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter appears to be coming out of the dark! Here is to hoping he shows up as full Martian Manhunter for an epic battle!
