Lex Luthor has some major power issues. That much was clear. You don’t feed a man a Jolly Rancher like that unless you’re on some sort of power trip, and while we didn’t get to see any of the character’s backstory in Batman v Superman, it was evident through his monologuing that his relationship with good ol’ dad wasn’t exactly perfect.
Lex has a real god complex about him, and his distaste for Superman seems to be rooted in his distaste for powerlessness (or as Alfred would call it, “Powerless…ness”). Thanks to all this, you wouldn’t be blamed for thinking there was a chance that Lex took out his father himself. As director Zack Snyder has been doing for the past couple weeks, he took to his Vero account to comment on this theory from fans, saying:
“We feel the same about Lex taking out his dad.”

That sounds like as close of a confirmation we’ll be getting from the man himself, but that’s pretty much all we need. We’re sure plenty of people will take this as a bit of a semi-confirmation that perhaps Lex Senior is someone who’s more in line with the character we know from the comics. As Snyder has proven time and again, he’s perfectly happy to invert things from how they are in the comics (Jimmy Olsen, anyone?), so it wouldn’t shock me if that was the case as well.
