Zack Snyder’s Justice League will eschew the red tint in the final act.
Justice League was such an interesting movie to follow during its production and release. As progress was made, you could follow the reports and literally see the vision of the film changing as it got closer to its release date. The film went from a Zack Snyder joint to a studio mishmash. In fact, you can see this difference in how differently the film turned out from the initial trailer. One very evident visual marker is the terrible mustache-airbrushing that was done to Henry Cavill’s Superman. But there was one other big visual marker.
I’m talking about the red tint in the film’s third act. The climax of the film takes place in some random Russian city, and man is it red. The entire sky of most of the third act is distractingly tinted, giving the setting an apocalyptic vibe. If you’d been following Justice League and its progress, you’ll have noticed the red tint was not always there. In fact, it seemed like quite the late addition.
With Zack Snyder’s Justice League (aka the Snyder Cut) coming next year, fans wondered on Vero whether or not they’d nix that red tint. Snyder replied with a simple “yes.” If you don’t know what I mean by red tint, check the trailer below:

Now, understandably, you may have thought that red tint was the plan from day one. Movie trailers are infamous for showing unfinished effects, so it’s possible that first trailer featured footage before that effect was implemented, right? Well, cinematographer Fabian Wagner confirmed a while back that the film’s aesthetic was changed. In order to get a better idea of what it should have looked like, we should look at that first trailer.
“It was just a great shoot, and so it was a shame to see the film the way it turned out to be,” Wagner shared last year. “You can just see, if you watched the first trailers you can see how the film should have looked and how the film did look when we were shooting it.”
Luckily, with Zack Snyder’s Justice League on the way, we can see the movie as it was originally intended. And you know what? I’m pretty thrilled for the opportunity. It’s not every day you get to see a drastically different cut of a movie, and I’m all about extra content.
