Zoé Wittock on Woman’s Love And Sex With Amusement Ride in Jumbo [Exclusive Interview]

Jumbo - Noemie Merlant

Zoé Wittock came across a strange, but true story. In the news, a woman fell in love and married the Eiffel Tower back in 2004.

The story was so outrageous, it inspired her to write the screenplay for the basis of Jumbo of a woman who falls in love with an amusement park ride.

The film stars Noémie Merlant, who was recently praised last year for her performance in Portrait of a Lady on Fire. In Jumbo, she plays Jeanne Tantois who falls in love after having a supernatural connection to a popular theme ride at her workplace.

The film also stars Emmanuelle Bercot and Sam Louwyck.

Here’s the synopsis:

Jeanne, a shy young woman, lives at home with her uninhibited bartender mother and works the graveyard shift as a cleaner at an amusement park. Her mother wants her to meet a man, be Jeanne prefers tinkering in her bedroom with wires, light bulbs, and spare parts, creating miniature versions of theme park rides. During her late-night shifts, she begins spending intimate time with the alluring new Tilt-A-Whirl ride that she decides to call Jumbo. Finding herself seduced by “his” red lights, smooth chrome, and oily hydraulics, Jeanne concludes that the thrilling new relationship she wants to pursue is with Jumbo.
