It was announced via Twitter in a humorous tweet that fans of the 2009 Ruben Fleischer directed Zombie Land will be getting a sequel. The tweet humorously accepts the viral 10-year challenge meme and answers it with a side by side poster featuring some cast members of the original film. Front and center are Venom’s Woody Harrelson, Batman V Superman’s Jesse Eisenberg, Maniac’s Emma Stone, and Signs Abigail Breslin. The new title is also revealed to be Zombie Land: Double Tap. Fans of the film may remember Double Tap as rule #2 from Eisenberg’s character Columbus in the original.

Director of the original Zombie Land and recent Venom film, Ruben Fleischer is back in the director’s chair. Writing duties are being handled by screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The duo wrote the original horror-comedy. Made on a budget of $23.6 million dollars, the film had a box office run of $102.4 million. Zombieland: Double Tap is being produced by Columbia Pictures and Galvin Polone’s Pariah Production group.
Zombieland: Double Tap is set to release October 11, 2019. It’s heartening news to see we will once again visit the world created by screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Horror fans may recall the attempted Zombieland series released Amazon Video and now defunct UK streamer Lovefilm. Unfortunately, that series never made it past pilot. The trailer can still be found online. Hopefully, the followup offers more funny gags. I for one will sure miss Bill Murray. Maybe they’ll work him into the story somehow.
