AQUAMAN: Patrick Wilson Cast As Ocean Master!

When Batman v Superman first hit theaters, one little Easter egg of sorts came in the form of the president of the United States. We never saw the man, but he was noteworthy because he was played by none other than Patrick Wilson. Moviegoing audiences have seen Wilson in such films as Watchmen, so it made sense that director Zack Snyder would throw him a bone.

However, speculation went through the roof for another reason: James Wan. Director James Wan is the genius behind the Conjuring and Insidious films, in both of which Wilson played a large part. Rumor had it that Wan had a hand in casting Wilson as the president, and as such, it was fair to assume that the president could have a much larger role to play in his upcoming Aquaman film.

Well, it turns out that was a red herring, if this Deadline report is to be believed. According to the outlet, Patrick Wilson has indeed been cast in the Aquaman flick, but not as the president. Nope, instead he will be playing the character of Orm, Aquaman’s half brother, but you may better know him by the name Ocean Master. This is interesting for a couple reasons. The first is for the reason mentionedabove…that red herring.

The second interesting reason is that all the rumors around the villain for the film have revolved around Black Manta. Looks like the internet was wrong. But let’s take a look at the evidence here. After looking into it, it almost seems obvious that Black Manta couldn’t be the villain. We know that James Wan and DC Films president Geoff Johns wrote a treatment for this film, and given that now Vulko, Mera, and Orm are in the picture, based on previous casting announcements, it may seem safe to conclude we may be witnessing an adaptation of the New 52 Aquaman series (as Screen Rant notes). After all, many of the key characters are in place, and Geoff Johns did write that comic and the treatment on which this film is based.

I know. Like me, you’re still lamenting the loss of Wilson as the president, but the potential here is immense.
