Incorporating Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a pipe dream for fans ever since Nick Fury showed his one-eyed mug at the end of the first IRON MAN. Following the middling success of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, Sony finally bit the bullet and agreed on a plan to incorporate the webslinger into the MCU. This May, we'll finally be getting our first look at Spidey, but exactly how involved will he be in the film?
In the comic book run of CIVIL WAR, Spider-Man is something of a pivotal figure. With the incorporation of the Superhuman Registration Act, he originally sides with Tony Stark, who believes the heroes need to be held accountable for their actions. Spidey even goes so far as to reveal his identity to the world, just to show his dedication to the cause. But as events play out, he ends up switching sides, and joins Captain America in the fight against the pro-Registration supers. From the way the MCU has played out thus far, having Spider-Man take on this role simply wouldn't make sense. He hasn't had a presence in this world yet, and in his place, it appears the studio seems to have shifted the focus to the character of Black Panther.
So if his role is likely to be on the small side, what can we expect from Spider-Man in the movie? Luckily for us fans, it appears that Peter Parker's role could actually be an important one. According to Empire Magazine, Parker "forms a relationship with one character." Who that character is, or how that relationship will affect the plot (if at all) is a complete mystery. It could be Tony Stark; it could be Steve Rogers; heck, it could even be Hawkeye, for all we know. Perhaps this relationship will be just an ancillary plotline, but its repercussions could ultimately influence the outcome of the story in a big way.
Who do you think Parker will form a relationship with in the story? Let us know in the comments down below!
