James Gunn Comments On Sony-Disney Drama

James Gunn on Guardians 3

Lines have been drawn in the sand, and while it may not ultimately matter at the end of the day, fans are deciding who it was who was responsible for Spider-Man potentially leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, even now, it’s not completely clear whether or not this whole mess is really over.

Now, in an Instagram comment, Guardians of the Galaxy writer-director James Gunn weighed in on this whole deal. Here’s the obvious wisdom he had to share with the masses.

“It’s two corporations working their s**t out. I have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes. But speaking of that, the day I shot this scene was the day I introduced Tom Holland to Stan Lee for the first time. Tom and Spider-Man director Jon Watts are both class acts.”

This was in a response to a fan comment on an image of Gunn holding up a disturbingly-detailed figure of Stan Lee in his spacesuit costume from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which was a gift from Marvel Studios for his birthday.

Uncanny valley figures aside, Gunn is totally right. This whole deal has been negotiations through the press, and I can only hope that this all works out before both studios (and fans) lose over this mess.
