When gameplay from Marvel’s Avengers was first shown at E3, many fans were worried about both the character models and the costumes. Especially when it came to Captain America, I remember Jammer writing about this and he described it as akin to an overweight actor turning up for a shoot too big, so they have to give them a bulky costume to hide the extra size, which was exactly how it looked to me.

Since then we have seen some improvements to the visuals and the latest extended gameplay demo of the games’ prologue was met with more enthusiasm from fans. The video above, whilst short, shows off some combat for Captain America specifically, and we also get a glimpse at one of the promised alternative costumes the characters can wear in the game. This more comic accurate costume is far superior in my humble opinion to the standard costume we have seen thus far.

I am hoping they can have quite a selection of costumes for each character so that the players can customize their favorite characters in the way they think looks best. After all, fashion is a fundamental part of most video games these days, especially the GAAS games, which is squarely the sandbox where Marvel’s Avengers is aiming to play in. I do think the combat for Cap looks perhaps the most satisfying of the characters we have seen so far, though I must admit, I’ll still be ‘maining’ Hulk I think when the game hits and I am playing in co-op with mates.

I do however want to wait for us to see some more gameplay from outside of the prologue, because it was a little too heavy on the quick time events and it all felt ‘on rails’ which is not usually my bag when it comes to gaming. I am hoping that’s just for the intro and later on we will be able to create some crazy combos between the various characters. I’d also expect us to get conformation eventually of more playable characters as time goes on, perhaps for release, but certainly for seasonal updates one would expect.
