Fans Threaten To Boycott Sony On Social Media Promotion For Extended Spider-Man Far From Home Cut

More Barside Buzz rumors on the Spider-Man 4 disagreement between Sony and Marvel.

There’s no doubt that the Sony/Disney Spider-Man split is the biggest story of the year so far in movies, even a glimpse of Rey going to the Dark Side from the latest Star Wars trailer hasn’t dislodged Spider-Man as the most discussed subject from movie fans online.

There has been nothing new to report on recently with this, and hope still remains amongst fans that a deal of some kind can be still be struck. So far amongst fans, most of the blame seems to be landed at Sony’s door for this split, but as extensively as we have spoken about it here at LRM, we are still none the wiser as to what is really going on. The reports from trades have been varied, to say the least, Sony has had a little dig at Disney, and Disney hasn’t really said anything other than the fact they enjoyed getting to make Spider-Man movies. So the question does have to be asked, what exactly are fans blaming Sony for at this time?

Whether it is justified or not, Sony is definitely feeling the wave of negative feedback surrounding them. As you are probably aware an Extended Director’s Cut of Spider-Man: Far From Home is being promoted by Sony right now. In their latest social media campaign, fans have flocked to warn Sony that they will be boycotting this extended cut and any future Sony movies unless they make a deal with Disney. I certainly won’t list all the posts as there is a lot, but you can check some of them out in the Twitter post below if you wish.

If you had a look you’ll see it’s practically all posts campaigning against Sony to varying degrees of extremity, from the “Please make a deal Sony”, to the “It’s all Sony’s fault, let’s boycott them!” and everything in between. And no matter which way you look at it, this cannot be what Sony wanted prior to promoting their Extended Cut. Spider-Man: Far From Home is already Sony’s most successful movie ever, but I am sure they were hoping fans would come out in their drives for a little extra footage.

As far as myself I don’t have any plans to see Far From Home again in theaters and I have to admit that this split is driving my thought process. It’s not that I blame Sony, because I don’t feel we have enough concrete information to blame anyone. It’s more just a feeling of being bummed out on Spider-Man suddenly after watching what was to this point my favorite ever Spider-Man movie. I guess I also feel like I can catch the extra’s on the Blu-ray when it inevitable appears for home release, so I feel no urge to see it for myself as soon as possible.

What do you think of this whole situation, are these fans right to be threatening to boycott Sony en masse, or should they wait to hear the details first before assigning blame to one company only? Share em if you get em in the usual spot below.
