Marvel staged an event earlier today where they revealed their full slate of Phase 3 films. While we'll have more on that later, courtesy of El Mayimbe, I'm happy to report than another of our exclusive reports was confirmed at the event. Back on May 1, 2013, we reported that Chadwick Boseman sat atop Marvel's wish list to star in their- at the time, rumored- Black Panther movie.
Today Marvel confirmed that Boseman, star of 42 and Get On Up, will indeed play T'Challa, aka The Black Panther!
That's not all, but we were also shown this concept art that offers up some insight on how the character will look in Marvel's Cinematic Universe:
We also got word that the character will be seen a full year and a half before his solo film bursts into theaters. The character is set to debut in Captain America: Civil War, which will be hitting theaters on May 6, 2016.
"I’m blessed to be a part of this Marvel Universe, and to work with you both, and I look forward to making magic together," the actor said to Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans.
Marvel honcho Kevin Feige also had this to say about Black Panther: "Black Panther and all of Wakanda is one of the most interesting characters in Marvel history. Something I already showed you today contains an Easter egg that leads directly into ‘Black Panther.’ He’s a bit of a prince, he may even become a bit of a king, but it’s all about how this isolationist country meets the world. Maybe it goes well, maybe it doesn’t."
Exciting times in Marvel land!
