Toy Story 4: Pixar Threw Out 75 Percent Of Original Script

Toy Story 3 ended the franchise on a pitch-perfect note around eight years ago, landing Woody, Buzz, and the rest into another kid’s house, where they could be enjoyed for years to come (though, interestingly enough, by this time, that girl would have already grown out of them…kinda sad…). However, regardless of how well things were left, Pixar seems up to taking these toys out yet again.

Toy Story 4 was announced years ago, and was actually supposed to have hit last year. However, some time ago, the studio pushed the film back to June of 2019 — but what was the reason for it? Annie Potts, who plays Bo-Peep in the franchise, revealed to Radio Times that Pixar threw out almost the entire script.

“[Toy Story 4] was supposed to come out this year and then they threw out three-quarters of it and rewrote. Usually, it takes – from start to finish – two years. But because they threw most of it in the bin and started over [my time on the project has] been extended a little bit. I’ve done a lot of work on it.”

“They’re funny those Pixar people. They just take their time. It’s very painstaking work. If they don’t like whole sections then they just chuck it and start over again. They have that great creative liberty to do that.”

This seems to be standard practice for Pixar, where they build, destroy, build, and then destroy their stories again and again until they end up the perfectly-crafted specimens they are. That being said, it really does drive home how much work goes into this, and how willing they are to start over if something simply isn’t working.

From what we know, Toy Story 4 will be something of a romantic comedy, with the former love interest of Woody’s, Bo-Peep, set to come back, after being gone from the franchise last film.
