Ah, the ’90s. It was a land full of baggy clothes, skateboards, and terrible music. That was the decade where the bulk of my childhood landed, and it’s one that has yet to be fully exploited in film or TV form — unless you count the now-canceled Netflix original series Everything Sucks! Now, it looks like we’ll finally be getting the big screen treatment in a more realistic form.
I’m talking about the brand-new film Mid90s, which is written and directed by Jonah Hill — in fact, it’s Hill’s directorial debut. After perusing the trailer a few times, I’d say he captured the time period well. As one of the countless posers out there who tried (and failed) their hand at skateboarding as a kid, this feels like a trip down memory lane.
Below is the official synopsis for Mid90s:
“Mid90s follows Stevie, a thirteen-year-old in 90s-era LA who spends his summer navigating between his troubled home life and a group of new friends that he meets at a Motor Avenue skate shop.”
