With Mile 22 hitting theaters domestically on August 17, the fourth collaboration between director Peter Berg and actor Mark Wahlberg has been ramping up the promotional campaign for the movie. LRM‘s own Nancy Tapia had the chance to attend the press conference this week and along with Berg and Wahlberg answering questions, there was also Ronda Rousey.

The former UFC champion is now trying her hand at acting and stars alongside Wahlberg in Mile 22. Rousey talked about what it was like working for director Peter Berg and specifically how they handled the gunfights in the movie.
“Shooting for [director Peter Berg] is different that anything I’ve ever experienced before, and so we couldn’t really go in memorizing like, ‘This is what the gun fight’s gonna be, and this is what this fights gonna be, and let’s learn the sequence.’ Like, it was, ‘We don’t know what the hell he’s gonna do. So we’re just gonna teach you concepts,’ and actually learning how to do it so we could be ready whatever he throws at us. So, it took a lot more time and dedication than just learning specific scenes and stuff like that. I think it was so much more interesting, we actually got to walk away with skills, instead of a memorized page.”
It’s an interesting approach to take, especially if you are going for realism in a movie action sequences. However, I guess I’m one of those people that likes my action movies a little over the top. I am definitely more Mission: Impossible – Fallout than I am Zero Dark Thirty, but that’s just me I guess. I prefer the escapism of movies.
