Shane Black has been hard at work bringing us another long-awaited Predator film to the big screen for some time now, and this coming weekend, we’ll finally get to see whether or not this is something audiences have truly been waiting for. It is one giant question mark, especially since 2010’s Predators didn’t do much to inspire confidence in this long-dormant franchise.
As of this writing, critical reception hasn’t been great. Our own Nick Doll had a chance to check it out, and while his review isn’t out yet, I’ll let you know that his opinions seem to be pretty much in line with the majority of critics. It is currently sitting at a 37% on Rotten Tomatoes, and if history has proven anything, it’s that this franchise has a hard time performing even when it’s well reviewed (again, see Predators, which scored a 65%).

So what’s it tracking at right now? According to Variety, in spite of negative reviews, it’s looking to earn between $25 million and $32 million domestically in its opening weekend. While that may not sound like much, it would be a best for the franchise, which tops out at $24.7 with Predators (Yeah, I’m mentioning that damn film again).
But, the big question here is if it’ll have the staying power. As I’ve mentioned, reviews haven’t been great, and if audiences agree, it could spell disaster in weeks to come, even if it does start off well enough.
What do you think of these numbers, and do you think it’ll be enough to topple The Nun, which took in $53.5 million in its opening weekend? Let us know down below!
