Most of us need Indiana Jones 5 simply because we don’t want Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to be the last entry into the franchise. Now, I don’t hate the film with as much enthusiasm as a lot of fans do, it’s not in Last Jedi territory (EDITOR’S NOTE: GTFO of here, Seth), but it definitely resides at #4 on my Indy list.
The film has been plagued by script issues with writer David Koepp exiting the project twice. In an interview with Den of Geek, Koepp explains, somewhat vaguely, why he and legendary director Steven Spielberg left the film. You can check out what he had to say below.
“I tried a couple different versions with Steven and they all had some good stuff about them and they all had some stuff that didn’t work, which happens. But it was just very hard to have everybody come together and have all the elements — Steven, Harrison (Ford), the script and Disney — come together at once. And it didn’t.”

Currently, Logan director James Mangold is set to direct the film. Koepp continues below, saying that the parting of ways was cordial and there were no hard feelings.
“When James Mangold came in and Steven stepped out, that was a pretty logical breaking point. It’s a gracious time to step out the door because I think the last thing a new director wants is the old director’s writer. I mean, that’s a drag. The last thing you need is some guy sitting around with his arms folded saying, ‘Well, the way Steven would have done it is…’ I had one nice friendly conversation with him and then I’m sure he wanted to be able to move on anyway. Everybody was pretty polite, I thought.”
I understand the pressure to find the right story as this is likely the last adventure Indy will have with Harrison Ford in the role. However, if Disney plans to continue the franchise after Ford steps away from the character, then there is really only one way to go with the story for Indiana Jones 5.
The Fountain of Youth.
Indy searches for and finds the legendary fountain and during a struggle at the end of the film, Dr. Jones falls in the enchanted waters and emerges as the actor cast to take over the role (which should be a surprise to viewers). Simple, right?
