It is the last day of the spooky season and we’re ending it rightfully with some horror news. Clive Barker, the creator of the Hellraiser franchise, has joined the upcoming HBO series as an EP. This should bring peace to many fans’ minds, as it was earlier reported that Barker would not be involved. This report is coming to us from Deadline.
The original Hellraiser movie was based on Barker’s novel, The Hellbound Heart. The new series is looking to tell a new and unique story set in the Hellraiser universe but doesn’t look to be a rehash of the first film. I’m certain that we’ll see the familiar Cinobites (which sounds like a tasty treat more than demons), including the famous Pinhead.
Barker spoke about the property’s future:
“(Barker is) delighted the Hellraiser mythology is seeing a new life. It’s time the stories went back to their roots. I’m eager to bring to a new audience the most powerful and ancient elements of horror: the darkest evil invading our human lives and how we must find in ourselves the power to resist it.”

LRMornings co-host, Brian Brantley, is a massive fan of this series. I expect him to want to discuss it on the show more as additional information becomes available. I enjoyed the first film quite a bit. The idea of torture demons obsessed with BDSM is cool. Yeah, I am that sick and twisted. The horrific things done to the victims of the cinnamon-flavored bad guys are unique and imaginative.
Barker is joined by Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Galactica) and Michael Dougherty (Trick r’ Treat) who are writing together, but Verheiden will be running the show. No release date has been set. Stay tuned to LRMOnline for the latest on this movie and other entertainment news.
