Interview With Tara Johnson-Medinger For My Summer As A Goth [Exclusive Interview]

Who can forget the magic of discovering yourself during your teenage years? A lot of us have cringe-worthy memories of us going through different “phases”. All of this in the name of finding out who we are and what kind of people we want to surround ourselves with. With that in mind comes Tara Johnson-Medinger’s new film, My Summer as a Goth.

This film is a coming-of-age story that follows a sixteen-year-old girl named Joey Javitts. After the sudden death of her dad, Joey is sent to say with her grandparents over a summer. While her mother, a successful author, is traveling on a book tour. Joey ends up falling for the beguiling Goth boy next door, Victor. He and his friends influence her into embracing the goth subculture. The film is set in present-day Portland, Oregon.

My Summer As A Goth

During the film, we’ll see how a heartbroken Joey manages her relationships that include new friends, her family, and herself. I feel that this film will resonate with most people that that survived the social alienation of adolescence and that first summer heartbreak. It’s actually a very interesting film that is very easy to watch because of how relatable it is.
