Umbrella Academy Season 3 Officially Renewed By Netflix

The Umbrella Academy will be back for a third season. This announcement was made this morning by the streaming giant Netflix. This news doesn’t come as much as a surprise with the second season being as successful as it was. During its first week, it became the most-watched show on all streaming, per Nielsen stats. Also after that crazy cliffhanger, it would have been a real shame if they had just ended it there.

The third season of The Umbrella Academy will contain ten one-hour episodes that will be produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, for Netflix. Production on the series will begin in February of next year in Toronto, Canada. Steve Blackman will return as Showrunner and Executive Producer.

Along with Blackman also returning are Jeff F. King as executive producer, Mike Richardson executive producer, Keith Goldberg executive producer, Jesse McKeown executive producer, Gerard Way co-executive producer, and Gabriel Bá co-executive producer.

Also returning are the beloved cast members that include Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, and Colm Feore.

In case you need a refresher on season two of Umbrella Academy here is the synopsis:

Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right – the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which – spoiler alert! – turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything.

Steve Blackman on the Development of The Umbrella Academy Season Two [Exclusive Interview]

In my opinion both seasons of The Umbrella Academy have been great. I will say that they did stumble a bit on trying to re-create the magic of the first season’s dancing sequence. I look forward to learning more about their father in the upcoming season.
