Paul Bettany’s Vision is not what you would call a normal guy by any measure. He has many abilities that most humans do not, even within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It seems as if Avengers: Age of Ultron lobbied to show the android had something that almost every human male does. He wanted to put Vision’s junk on full display.

Exactly why Whedon thought this was essential to film (he is described as being adamant). I will let Vision himself tell you the story. In a recent interview promoting WandaVision (just started watching it, it’s fantastic so far), Bettany revealed Whedon’s unusual request. You can check out the tweet from Lights, Camera, Pod below.

I wonder how the rating folks would grade an android’s well, unit. Such an odd thing to think about really. Whedon ultimately decided against his idea. Saying he didn’t even need to see any concept art.

Up to this point, I had never thought about what, if anything Vision brought to the party. Unfortunately, moving forward it’s going to be difficult to return to that mindset. Granted this was intended to be a birth scene, however, it doesn’t seem like it would change the film in any way. And seems unnecessary, along with being pretty weird.
