Star Trek: Discovery Writer Hired To Pen Original Star Trek Movie

Star Trek is returning to the feature film world after all.

We ran the rumor weeks ago that Star Trek 4 was in development for Paramount+. Giant Freakin Robot was partially right in their scoop. There is a new feature film coming, but it looks like it will not be a 4th entry in the Kelvin timeline.

Deadline reports that Kalinda Vazquez has been tapped by Paramount to write an original Star Trek film. Not only has Vazquez written for Star Trek: Discovery, she is named after the character Kalinda from the episode of The Original Series titled ‘By Any Other Name.’

Vasquez is also known for her work as an co-executive producer on Fear the Walking Dead. More recently, she teamed with George R.R. Martin for an HBO adaptation of the sci-fi novel Roadmarks. She also has credits from Runaways, Once Upon A Time, Nikita, Human Target, Prison Break, and Barrier.

JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot is producing, but this doesn’t mean we’re getting more of his timeline. If you look at Mission: Impossible, usually Bad Robot continues to produce the continuation of the franchise even when Abrams is not directing.

Giant Freakin Robot did say in their scoop that Paramount was looking to make several Star Trek films, all for Paramount+.  Time will tell if this newly announced film will hit theaters or not.
