New Gods and The Trench are two DC projects that are no longer moving forward, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Tis a long tradition at DC, with more than half the movies that they have announced never making it to production.
New Gods was set to be written by an actual, award winning comic book author, Tom King. King won awards for his books Vision and Mister Miracle, which took an often comedic take on Darkseid and company. In Mister Miracle, Darkseid double dips at a diplomatic dinner party. The graphic novel is great. Announced back in 2018, Ava DuVernay was molding the story with King with the plan to direct. This not only would have brought more diversity into the DCEU, but also would have treated the New Gods as Jack Kirby would have.
The Trench, an Aquaman spin-off, was written by Noah Gardner and Aiden Fitzgerald. James Wan, director of Aquaman, was set to produce with Peter Safran.

New Gods is being shelved because of Zack Snyder’s Justice League. DC and WB are hesitant to use Darkseid so close to his worthless, five minute appearance in that four hour film. That’s right, by giving into Snyder trolls, WB had to fire other talent that had been on the job for over two years. Better talent, I would argue. But I digress…
The Trench was canceled simply because DC decided that audiences weren’t interested in that many adventures under the sea. We are still getting Aquaman 2 from James Wan, after all.
