In celebration of Earth Day, Brian Skerry brings us the new Secrets of the Whales. Skerry is the creator of the new four part series narrated by the award winning-actress Sigourney Weaver.
The Synopsis
“Secrets of the Whales,” from National Geographic, plunges viewers deep within the epicenter of whale culture to experience the extraordinary communication skills and intricate social structures of five different whale species: orcas, humpbacks, belugas, narwhals and sperm whales. Filmed over three years in 24 locations, throughout this epic journey, we learn that whales are far more complex and more like us than ever imagined.
The National Geographic Explorer and Photographer Brian Skerry has been a contributor to the magazine since 1998. He is known for his marine and underwater environment coverage around the world. Skerry is an 11 time award winner for the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition.
The photojournalist today is recognized internationally and has had several solo exhibits. Including the two year “Portraits of Planet Ocean” exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. Plus others in Geneva, Barcelona, Lisbon, Shanghai and Perpignan, France.
Besides being a National Geographic storyteller he is the author of 12 books. This includes the recent book, Secrets of the Whales paired with the new television series.

I had an exciting conversation with Brian Skerry via Zoom to talk about his creation, Secrets Of The Whales. He shared how the three year project started and how he feels about these beautiful creatures. In addition, to sharing a secret of the whales and the type of whale to be his favorite.
