Mystery Star Wars Film Reportedly Old Republic Plus Rogue Squadron Wrinkles. Read on for more details on this latest Barside Buzz….
On Friday we covered the rumor from BSL that an unnamed Star Wars was filming next year. Over the weekend a few more details have begun to emerge. First off, many of the Star Wars insiders we trust here at LRM are hinting that this movie may be based on the Old Republic timeline. Where, or what is unknown, but so far we have BSL, Adam Frazier, and Jordan Maison all hinting it’s Old Republic based. on social media. The rumor was also covered by SWNN who say that original source BSL hinted at some potential Rogue Squadron wrinkles.
Rogue Squadron was expected to the the first Star Wars movie to film starting sometime next year. However that seems uncertain now, and it’s clear this mystery Old Republic movie may film first. Here is what the outlet said of their talk with BSL.
We reached out to the source for clarification on this interesting story, and we’ve learned that while Lucasfilm is moving full steam ahead on the Rogue Squadron movie from director Patty Jenkins, they are taking their time to make sure that the screenplay is just right before filming begins. The script in question, written by Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying, Edge of Tomorrow, and Love and Monsters), has itself received a major rewrite since it was first announced, and Jenkins herself is keeping busy with her work on a third Wonder Woman movie (which she is confirmed to direct) and a planned Amazons spin-off (which she is set to produce).

There appears to be no talk of Rogue Squadron actually being delayed, yet. However it is clear Lucasfilm wants to make sure the script is ready before pushing ahead. I actually commend this decision and wish this was an approach Lucasfilm took to the ST. If something isn’t right, delay it and get it right. We saw something similar recently with Obi-Wan Kenobi and from what we are hearing, the improvements in that show are vast.
Could this Old Republic Star Wars movie be announced this Friday on Disney+ Day? I’d have to doubt unless this is a made for Disney+ movie. Though, unlike Marvel and Pixar that are doing a special presentation, Lucasfilm is reportedly only going to be releasing a series of stories and teases online. I guess we will find out.
