The Witcher Season 3 Trailer Arrives To The Sound Of Crickets In The Fan Base

Henry Cavill talks about the upcoming Highlander Reboot during his appearance at CinemaCon.

Today we are sharing The Witcher Season 3 trailer alongside a new synopsis for the upcoming series. To say this latest trailer has been met with less enthusiastic voice in the fan base is an understatement. However, check out the trailer and synopsis below first, and then we’ll talk about the fan base.

Here is that synopsis. The Witcher Season 3 main characters are Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), and Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan).

As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.

The Witcher season 3 also stars Joey Batey as Jaskier, Eamon Farren as Cahir, MyAnna Buring as Tissaia, Mimî M. Khayisa as Fringilla, Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold, Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz, Royce Pierreson as Istredd, Tom Canton as Filavandrel, Mecia Simson as Francesca Findabair, Wilson Mbomio as Dara, Jeremy Crawford as Yarpin Zigrin, Terence Maynard as Artorius, Lars Mikkelson as Stregobor, Therica Wilson Readas Sabrina, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, Cassie Clare as Philippa Eilhart, Liz Carr as Fenn, Simon Callow as Codringher, Ed Birch as King Vizimir, Kaine Zajaz as Gage, Bart Edwards as Emhyr, Sam Woolf as Rience and Graham McTavish as Dijkstra.

Season 3 will be split into two parts. Volume one arrives on Netflix on June 29, 2023, with volume two following on July 27, 2023.

When it comes to the fan base, many of the hard core Witcher book and games fans were already angry with the writing team. Mostly due to changes made from the books which make little sense as to why they were changed. However, it was then announced Henry Cavill will depart the role of Geralt and Liam Hemsworth takes over the role in the already greenlit Season 4 and 5. That final straw saw the fans convinced Cavill left because he was fed up with the same issues they had. There’s no solid evidence that wad the case, but fans be fans.

Another group of fans is equally disappointed, for different reasons. Fans who found The Witcher from Season 1 only have less issues with the books because they’ve never read them. However, the feeling it get from what I’ll call ‘the casuals’ is that they are also unhappy. Online they tell Netflix they’ll watch Season 3, but won’t be back for Season 4. One thing to always remember though, is that the most vocal people of a fan base tend to be the most negative. Therefore, it’s quite possible these fans are small enough numbers that it won’t affect the success of the show. The Witcher has so far been one of Netflix most watched new shows.

That was before the fallout after Season 2, and before the Henry Cavill bomb. It was also before the ill advised and poorly written Blood Origins, which was rightly panned by critics. I guess we’ll see how Season 3 goes?
