The Defenders, an eight episode series featuring an Avengers style team-up in the Netflix corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, arrives this August. Going into The Avengers, we’d already spent at least two hours with Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America in their solo, origin stories (four hours in Iron Man’s case). After watching two seasons of Daredevil, and thirteen hour-long episodes of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, we’ll finally see these street level heroes cross paths, bicker, and learn to fight together to save their city.
Watching these four interact for the first time in the teaser trailer for The Defenders is nearly as mind blowing as first watching Bruce Banner and Steve Rogers met on the deck of that Helicarrier in 2012. Now, Marvel has released motion posters on the Twitter accounts for each of their shows, putting each hero in another’s domain. This is really happening!
First, on The Defenders Twitter account, we have Matt Murdock/Daredevil spinning his billy clubs/walking stick hybrid in an elevator at Rand Enterprises, the company that Iron Fist/Danny Rand’s father built.

Seeing as how he has two seasons under his belt, it is only fitting to have a second motion poster featuring Matt Murdock, this time sitting on a bench featuring an ad for Jessica Jones’ friend’s news program, Trish Talk.

Next, Jessica Jones loiters outside of Rand Enterprises, hoping for more liquor.

Luke Cage challenges Daredevil to a boxing match, in a gym featuring an old newspaper clipping mentioning Matt Murdock’s father.

Finally, Danny Rand has plenty of time to meditate while waiting outside Jessica Jones’ private investiagting venture, Alias Investigations.

From the early days of Jessica Jones, it has been amusing to watch these Twitter accounts mock each other as if they were written by the actual title characters. These wonderful motion posters are the next logical step, and a fantastic way to tease worlds colliding, without sticking the heroes in the same shot for every piece of promotional material. As an added bonus, check out the replies under each tweet for more interplay between these heroes.
The Defenders airs on Netflix on August 18, 2017.
