Several years ago, it was revealed that both Marvel Studios and Fox would be utilizing the character Quicksilver. This was back when Marvel Studios was churning out hit after hit (I guess that hasn’t changed), and while Fox had only recently just brought out X-Men: First Class. All other recent memories for fans were X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine — not good ones. As such, many were expecting Marvel Studios to utilize the character in a much better way.
Surprise, surprise, when X-Men: Days of Future Past came out, and Evan Peters’ interpretation of Quicksilver was one of the big scene-stealers of the film. Whereas Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron was just fast, Peters’ was ADHD in personality, and his attitude really reflected his abilities. Plus, the way Bryan Singer conveyed the speed — from Quicksilver’s perspective — created a great moment that he would go on to replicate in X-Men: Apocalypse.
THR is now reporting that the fan favorite mutant will be returning in Simon Kinberg’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and that Evan Peters will be returning to play him a third time. As of right now, we don’t know how he’ll be utilized in the film, and given how easy it is to overpower him, they’ve always had to be strategic with how they did so. We’re sure that longtime series writer Kinberg will know how to make it work.
Peters is one of many actors set to make his return in Dark Phoenix. Also on board are Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Ship, Tye Sheridan, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
