Justice League has come and gone, and despite the best intentions of all involved, it looks like the movie was ultimately a failure, grossing less than every other DCEU film to date.
Given that this was supposed to be their answer to the Avengers, one would imagine that this poor reception was a huge surprise, but it looks like that may not have been the case. According to Revenge of the Fans, the studio knew it wasn’t going to hit it big, and were okay with that. However, instead of pouring more money and time into the film (and delaying it), they opted to release it and get it over with.

This is apparently the reason why they allowed the CG to be so horrible, and is also why they didn’t bring in Steppenwolf actor Ciaran Hinds to amp up his role after Darkseid’s involvement was nixed. It’s also why Geoff Johns, Joss Whedon, or even Zack Snyder were on the press junket circuits, and why WB didn’t push Joss Whedon’s name int he marketing.
Now that the movie has come out, they can go forward with their course correction for Aquaman and all other films moving forward.
That being said, it doesn’t sound like even they knew it would perform as bad as it did. But they don’t blame Justice League, but rather Batman v Superman, as they believe it left a bad taste in many fans’ mouths.
Of course, as with all rumors, take this with a grain of salt, but if it is true, do you think Warner Bros. made the right choice of ushering the film right out of the gates? Let us know your thoughts down below!
