First Trailer for Jack Black’s ‘Bernie’

Millennium Films released the first trailer for the crime comedy “Bernie” via Yahoo! Movies.

The film stars Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine, Matthew McConaughey, Rip Torn, Brady Coleman and Richard Robichaux.

The film is based on a true story about Bernhardt “Bernie” Tiede, who was convicted of murdering the wealthy 81-year-old widow Marjorie Nugent. Bernie murdered for her for money, but no one missed the widow until a local district attorney investigated into the missing woman. However, many folks in the small Texas town of Carthage rally to Bernie’s defense and ask the authorities for leniency for the killing.

The film is directed by Richard Linklater (“The School of Rock,” “Dazed and Confused”). It is based on the 1998 Texas Monthly magazine article by Skip Hollandsworth called “Midnight in the Garden of East Texas.” Hollandsworth wrote the screenplay with Linklater.

The film had its world premiere at the 2011 Los Angeles Film Festival and will be shown in the upcoming SXSW Film Festival.

Millennium Films will have a wide release in theaters on April 27.
