Remember Disney’s Fantasia? Certainly one of the more unique entries in the Mouse House’s animated film library, it featured eight animated shorts, scored by classical music. While the most famous of the shorts remains The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Disney thinks it can mine Night on Bald Mountain into a feature-length film.
The studio has hired Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless to adapt the short into a movie. The dark piece centered on a demonic, winged creature that could raise spirits from the dead to dance, fly around, and enjoy a night of chaos until the sun come out.

Disney has found plenty of success with live-action adaptations and spinoffs of its animated library, and they seem to think that Night at Bald Mountain can be another hit for them. Seems a little off the wall, but Sazama and Sharpless have had experience in this area. Other recent features they’ve written include The Last Witch Hunter and Dracula Untold.
