‘Leprechaun’ Will Be Rebooted With Lionsgate

Lionsgate is in the Saint Patty’s Day spirit.

The studio signed an agreement with WWE Studios to reboot the horror flick “Leprechaun.”

The 1993 film was the first starring role for Jennifer Aniston and it had Warwick Davis as the murdering leprechaun.

It spawned a long-running horror franchise of six films, including “Leprechaun in the Hood,” “Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood” and even “Leprechaun 4: In Space.”

Lionsgate and WWE Studios will share the production and marketing costs for the film and Lionsgate will handle the distribution.

“We have been looking for ways to continue our relationship with Lionsgate and we saw ‘Leprechaun’ as the perfect opportunity to take a well-known franchise and put a modern-day spin on it,” said WWE Studios head Michael Luisi to Variety.

The project does not currently have a writer, director or cast. But, the studios set to release the film in theaters sometime in 2013.

Personally, if any franchise that calls for a reboot—it may be for this one. My memory of watching “Leprechaun” back then was walking out of the theater yelling, “Where’s me six dollars!?!”
