Star Trek Into Darkness

Paramount Studios opened the program with the introduction of the film’s writer Damon Lindelof. Director J.J. Abrams was scheduled for an appearance, but he had to cancel at the last minute. Lindelof then introduced some of the cast members on to the stage, including Chris Pine, Zach Quinto, John Cho and Alice Eve.

Then Paramount showed 18-minutes worth of footage. Here’s the description:

*Opening scene of the movie features James T. Kirk and Bones fleeing in a red forest from local natives. Kirk stole a scroll artifact, in which they were trying to lure the natives out of their village/temple. In the sky, a shuttle craft flies towards an active volcano. The shuttle crew included Spock, Uhura and Sulu. The plan is to lower Spock into the volcano to save the planet’s civilization. Due to intense heat, the shuttle craft retreated, but Spock fell into the volcano and landed on a pile of dirt.

Kirk and Bones escaped the natives as they dive off a cliff into the ocean. Underneath the waters, the U.S.S. Enterprise sits quietly hidden in the ocean. Kirk was then informed that Spock is still in the active volcano. Kirk and the rest of crew wanted to rescue Spock as he activated the device. Spock insisted that Kirk should not violate the Prime Directive, because these local natives will see the space craft. As always, Kirk violated the Prime Director and rescued Spock at the last minute by teleporting him on to the space craft.

The natives did witness phenomena as the U.S. Enterprises flew into the skies. They drew a picture of the ship on the dirt.

*The next scene was with Kirk and John Harrison in a make-shift holding area. Harrison was surrounded by red shirt security. The conversation between Kirk and Harrision was that Harrison must pay for his crimes, but he must help out Kirk first. With Kirk’s persuasion, Harrison agreed and escorted down a hallway with a team of red shirts.

*The final footage shown was a space scene. There were two ships in space with a bunch of space debris in between the two ships. The plan was for Kirk and Harrison to suit up in space suits and fly towards the other ship by propelling out of garbage chute into a hanger door to be opened by Scotty on the other ship.

World War Z

The audience was surprised by an appearance by Brad Pitt at CinemaCon. He explained to the audience on why he made Max Brook’s book into a film and now considered himself as a “zombie expert.”

Paramount showed three extended scenes from the film. Here’s the description:

*Philadelphia scene. Gerry Lane (Pitt) and his family were stuck in traffic trying to flee the city. A motorcycle cop drove past by their vehicle, but took it his side view mirror. Lane exited the vehicle to pick up his mirror, but another cop drove by and told him to get back into his vehicle. Then out of nowhere, a garbage truck rammed through the cop and knocking cars off the street left and right.

Lane took advantage of the opportunity to flee and drove behind the garbage truck. The truck crashed into a pile of cars and so did the Lane family. The Lane family had to flee by foot as an approaching wave of zombies consuming victims all over the city. As the family fled, Lane witnessed a transformation of a zombie after an innocent victim was bitten. It took a few seconds for the conversion.

*The second scene was in Jerusalem, inside the walled area of the city. Lane was having a conversation with another person about traveling to a different country. Then crowd of people, both Jews and Muslims, began to sing together. They used a loud speaker to motivate the humans who were still alive. However, the zombies sensed their presence and began to attack the compound by creating a human pile of dead bodies against the wall. The soldiers began to fire on the zombies, but could not stop the invading force. Lane retreated deeper into the compound with a bunch of soldiers as they died one-by-one from the zombies.

*Last scene was on the airplane. Lane and fellow survivors were flying towards an unknown destination. A stewardess at the back of the plane heard a noise from the elevator compartment. She foolishly opened the door and the zombie attacked her. Lane woke from the noise and peaked through the curtains to the other section of the plane. He witnessed zombies eating and infecting all the passengers at the back of the plane.
