Sony Releases New Synopsis and Cast List For ‘Spider-Man 2’

spider-manBANNERSony continues its buzz-building promotion of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In the last few days we’ve gotten a look at a banner poster, teaser previews (which hint at a new title), and there’s the world premiere of the actual teaser coming up on Thursday. Now, to fuel the flames further, Sony has released an updated synopsis and cast list for the film:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Also of note, the revised cast list includes Embeth Davidtz and Campbell Scott, the actors that played Peter’s parents in the first film of this rebooted series. So it stands to reason that we’ll learn more about the mystery surrounding their disappearance from Peter’s life. Academy Award-winner Chris Cooper is notably absent from the new list, despite it being common news that he’s set to play Norman Osborn- the future Green Goblin, himself. This could either mean that he’s been cut from the film, similar to Shailene Woodley’s Mary Jane Watson, or that his part is being saved primarily for a later entry in the series. I would be shocked if we don’t at least get a quick cameo in this film, to set him up. In fact, last week the actor even stated, “[Amazing] Spider-Man 2? was an introduction to Norman, and — you’ll see — an extremely odd introduction, which apparently will lead to something more.” Still, his absence from the revised list is intriguing.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 officially arrives on May 2, 2014.
