Writer Tapped For Next ‘Wolverine’

wolverine spidermanDeadline is reporting that a writer that is unknown to many has been tapped to write the sequel to The Wolverine. While he may not be known, there’s some definite buzz around the writer, whose name is David James Kelly. Not only has he been hired to write the next Wolverine, which will be helmed once again by James Mangold, but he has been linked to two other comic book adaptations as well.

Kelly was credited as a writer on the Daredevil reboot that eventually fell apart, which led to the character’s rights reverting back to Marvel Studios. He’s also presently working on the film adaptation of Dark Horse’s Mind Mgmt for Fox. Other than this, he only has a short film from 2010 on his resumé- Straw Man. So the scribe must do fairly well in pitch meetings, if studios continue to entrust him with potential tentpoles despite having so thin a track record.

The next Wolverine film is set to premiere on March 3, 2017- after this year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past and 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. It will once again be a standalone tale of Hugh Jackman’s Logan. There had been speculation that the Australian actor (pictured above during his first outing as the character in 2000) would finally be recast- considering he’ll be 47 years old when the film is in production, but it’s been reported that the actor will indeed return for the third solo Wolverine adventure.

As story details about Kelly’s Wolverine script become available, we will be sure to fill you in on what to expect.
