Disney Signed ‘Twilight’ Director Bill Condon for Live-Action ‘Beauty and the Beast’

With the success of “Maleficent” and the upcoming “Cinderella,” Disney is lining up to adapt more of its animated films into live-action ones.

Director Bill Condon has signed on for the live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast.”

Condon had significant success with both movies of “The Twilight Saga: Break Dawn.” His recently helmed the indie feature “The Fifth Estate” last year about Julian Assange.

If this movie turns out to be a musical, Condon had some experience with the 2006’s hit “Dreamgirls.” However, all the latest live-action Disney adaptations so far with “Cinderella,” “Jungle Book,” “Maleficent” and “Alice in Wonderland” weren’t musicals.

The animated “Beauty and the Beast” garnered over $425 million worldwide since its opening in theaters back in 1991.
