With the success of “Maleficent†and the upcoming “Cinderella,†Disney is lining up to adapt more of its animated films into live-action ones.
Director Bill Condon has signed on for the live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast.â€
Condon had significant success with both movies of “The Twilight Saga: Break Dawn.†His recently helmed the indie feature “The Fifth Estate†last year about Julian Assange.
If this movie turns out to be a musical, Condon had some experience with the 2006’s hit “Dreamgirls.†However, all the latest live-action Disney adaptations so far with “Cinderella,†“Jungle Book,†“Maleficent†and “Alice in Wonderland†weren’t musicals.
The animated “Beauty and the Beast†garnered over $425 million worldwide since its opening in theaters back in 1991.
