2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards: Getting Big, Going Bigger

The 2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards are streaming live, From Japan, on March 4th at 4:30am ET (8:30pm JT). LRM & The GenreVerse sat in during the show’s press conference and gained insight to the growth and future of Anime and the Anime Awards.

The press conference included Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini, Chief Marketing Officer Gita Rebbapragada, and Chief Content Officer Asa Suehira. They were asked questions from all over the world including Mexico, Chile, and the United Kingdom.

A big theme of both the questions and the answers were increasing reach, increasing diversity, and growing the prestige of the Anime Awards and the Anime industry in general. The Crunchyroll team expressed interest in growing the reach of the awards through additional categories that will focus on non-English and non-Japanese Voice Actors and expanding judging.

HOSTS

Voice Actress Sally Amaki and Pop Entertainer Jon Kabira will host the event, live from Tokyo. Crunchyroll provided the following for the hosts:

Originally from Los Angeles, Sally Amaki is a member of the digital voice actor idol
project 22/7 (Nanabun no Nijuni), a collaboration between Sony Music and ANIPLEX.

Jon Kabira is a host and emcee with a rich history in entertainment, working for
many years across radio, music, sports and more.
