2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards: Getting Big, Going Bigger

The 2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards are streaming live, From Japan, on March 4th at 4:30am ET (8:30pm JT). LRM & The GenreVerse sat in during the show’s press conference and gained insight to the growth and future of Anime and the Anime Awards.

2023 Crunchyroll Anime Awards Press Conference

The press conference included Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini, Chief Marketing Officer Gita Rebbapragada, and Chief Content Officer Asa Suehira. They were asked questions from all over the world including Mexico, Chile, and the United Kingdom.

A big theme of both the questions and the answers were increasing reach, increasing diversity, and growing the prestige of the Anime Awards and the Anime industry in general. The Crunchyroll team expressed interest in growing the reach of the awards through additional categories that will focus on non-English and non-Japanese Voice Actors and expanding judging.

Voice Actress Sally Amaki and Pop Entertainer Jon Kabira will host the event, live from Tokyo. Crunchyroll provided the following for the hosts:

Originally from Los Angeles, Sally Amaki is a member of the digital voice actor idol
project 22/7 (Nanabun no Nijuni), a collaboration between Sony Music and ANIPLEX.

Jon Kabira is a host and emcee with a rich history in entertainment, working for
many years across radio, music, sports and more.


Aidan Hutchinson- American football defensive end for the Detroit Lions of
the National Football League.
Finn Wolfhard- actor, musician and director (Stranger Things, Pinocchio,
Ghostbusters, IT)
Hunter Schafer- actress and artist (Euphoria and the upcoming The Hunger
Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes)
Jacob Bertrand- actor (Cobra Kai)
Juju Smith-Schuster- American football wide receiver for the Kansas City
Chiefs of the National Football League
Robert Rodriguez- film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer,
editor and musician (Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, Alita: Battle Angel)
Zelina Vega- WWE Superstar
Sykkuno- one of the largest streamers on YouTube Gaming (9.8M+ followers)
Valkyrae- one of the biggest female streamers in the world (13M followers)
and the co-owner of 100 Thieves
