Check out this latest official trailer for the 3 Body Problem series coming to Netflix from Game of Thrones showrunners Benioff and Weiss. The series is of course based on a trilogy of books by Chinese author Cixin Liu. The books were translated to many different languages as the popularity of the books grew. Only the first of the books is called Three Body Problem. However, I assume like Thrones the idea is to keep this name for the full series of 3 Body Problem.
I must admit the previous teaser trailer left a lot of fans pretty cold. Yet, this new full trailer has a few fans wondering. Can Benioff and Weiss strike lightning twice? Fans of the books say they are unadaptable without serious changes. However, fans of Game of Thrones also said those books were unadaptable.

3 Body Problem arrives on Netflix March 21st. As someone who hasn’t got round to reading the books yet, but knows the general plot, I will be checking it out. One thing is clear even as a non-book reader though. There are a lot of changes from the books visible in these trailers alone.
I won’t get into spoilers for the series here. You can find the entire book plot online anyway. However, the basic gist as you can see from the trailer is that someone or something seems to be compromising scientists across the globe. Additionally this unnamed entity is preventing progress in many scientific endeavours. The investigation to find out who or what is behind this begins and opens up a giant can of worms as the story progresses.

I am personally still angry at Benioff and Weiss for their rushed approach to ending Game of Thrones. They’d had enough and wanted to finish it, it happens I guess. However, those last two seasons were so rushed and unlike the earlier show that it ruined the ending of my favourite show up to that point to date.
At the time it seems both were keen to get into bed with Lucasfilm on a Star Wars trilogy. However, for reasons that are not completely clear Lucasfilm dropped the project. I’ll get into what Benioff and Weiss had to say about that in another article. Though, I do think the fact the pair agreed a massive deal with Netflix not long after was a major reason. As perhaps was the poor reception to the Game of Thrones ending?
