30 Rock: A One-Time Special Brings Back Tracy, Jenna, Liz, and Jack

How did this one slip pass me? I’ve watched 30 Rock several times through, the last binge was just a few weeks ago.  It’s one of my favorite sitcoms of all-time. Yet, this is the first time, that I can remember hearing anything about 30 Rock: A One-Time Special.

A surprise to be sure but a welcome one.

Liz, Jack, Tracy, and Jenna are set to return for more hijinx, shenanigans, and perhaps even some hoodwinks and bamboozles. The award-winning series followed the cast and crew of the sketch comedy show, The Girly Show. The series is reportedly loosely based on Tina Fey’s experiences as the first head female writer on Saturday Night Live, at the suggestion of an NBC executive.

I’m not sure how much of the original cast will make an appearance, but besides the big four, mentioned above, I really hope to see Chris Parnell’s Dr. Leo Spaceman (pronounced Spa-chim-en) show up, and he often times the comedic sprinkles on top of a funny sundae.

I wonder if former page Kenneth Parcell is still running the company? I think the sho could easily follow in the footsteps of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and have a couple of successful seasons with a reduced number of episodes, no more than 10.

These kinds of reunion episodes are of course bittersweet. While viewers get to see the character they love in new content, in the back on our minds we know it’s only temporary and they’ll have to do the same thing they did when the last saw the characters, say goodbye.

30 Rock: A One-Time Special airs Thursday, July 16 at 8/7c on NBC, and be available the following day on The Peacock, a new streaming service from NBCUniversal.
