A Get Out Sequel Will Only Happen If Writer-Director Jordan Peele Has An Idea

At the beginning of last year, Jordan Peele made his directorial debut with an unexpected little movie called Get Out. While Peele had already made his mark as a comedic actor in his sketch show Key and Peele and in the film Keanu, he opted to go boldly in the direction of horror for his first directorial effort. Many of us behind keyboards didn’t quite know what to make of the film when the trailer first hit, but once it came out in theaters, it was clear that Peele was a real talent behind the camera.

Since then, there has been talk and clamor for a potential sequel. After all, it was a huge success, both financially and critically, so why wouldn’t it get a sequel? It seemed like a shoo-in, especially if you weren’t too precious about original ideas being ruined in follow-up films. Plus, with Blumhouse being the studio behind them — and them having a grand history with sequeled franchises — it would seem natural, right? Well, it looks like Jason Blum himself is just as protective over that IP as many of us are, as he revealed to Variety, when asked about a potential sequel.

“The only way I would work is if Jordan Peele came up with an idea. There’s no other way there could be a sequel to Get Out because it would stain the quality of the first movie. The only way I would touch it is if the person who created it wanted to. And I’m not going to encourage or discourage him, I have not and would not put pressure on him to do it again. It would have to totally come from him.”

So if that movie is to get a sequel, you can rest easy knowing that it will have come from Jordan Peele, at least on some level. Hey may not be a director on it, but it’ll feature an idea from him that he felt happy enough about to push Blum to get it made.
