Oh, goody, another version of Prison Break. If there are two series it seems that Fox can’t keep trying to milk, it’s 24 and Prison Break. Following its main run, 24 got a limited series season, and then a revamp in the form of 24: Legacy. Now, 24 is getting a courtroom drama overhaul, and it looks like Fox may be doing something similar with Prison Break.
Sort of. While it’s unclear whether or not it will be an overhaul on the same level as 24, it doesn’t sound like the Scofields will be coming back for another round of prison breaking. Here’s what the president of entertainment Michael Thorn told the press at today’s Fox TCA session:
“We’re developing a new iteration of Prison Break. We’re really excited. We’ll be happy to share when we have more. We definitely have one in development.”
This goes against their statements last year, which indicated they had no current plans to revisit the franchise, but we suppose a lot can change in a handful of months.
But what approach will they take here? Will this one feature more prison breaks, or will it take a different approach? While some may think the show is at its weakest when there is no actual breakout, may I divert your attention to a random episode title of the anime series, Gintama:
“So in the Second Season of Prison Break, They’ve Already Broken out of Prison, but the Name Works Once You Realize That Society Is a Prison”
Food for thought, Fox.
