We all know how the movie rumor mill works. The internet and social media only exacerbate the amount of information and theories that are out there. Whenever we look forward to a film, possible rumors and theories are sure to follow. Sometimes there is validity to such reports from credible individuals. Other times news comes through the grapevine. The upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of those highly anticipated films which continues to generate a good deal of curiosity and discussion. A new rumor appears to possibly be stemming from No Way Home. The idea is that Sami Raimi and Tobey Maguire will be reuniting to make Spider-Man 4.

I am a nostalgic guy. I would not mind seeing a Raimi and Maguire Spider-Man 4. We all know the foundation the two have been able to make. Not only for the Spider-Man franchise, but the two also give the superhero genre a large part of its credibility. But, details of the rumor include Sony wanting Raimi and Maguire to reunite for the fourth installment. The film would be somewhat of spinoff from Dr. Strange in the Multiverse Madness. While the film would stand on its own, there may be a subtle acknowledgment to the MCU.

However, I have my reservations. As cool as a Raimi and Maguire Spider-Man 4 could be, it doesn’t seem to add up. There are a couple reasons I feel this way. The first is that Maguire is already in the rumor mill with No Way Home and the Doctor Strange sequel. Couple that with Raimi being the director of said Doctor Strange sequel. Inevitably hopeful connections will be made. But, it seems too coincidental to me. Also, the major stumbling block is that this would be a Sony film somewhat tied to the MCU? We all know the issues with Marvel characters, Sony, the MCU, etc. It just seems to be a bit of a stretch.
