Without a doubt, based on the trailers we’ve seen for A Wrinkle in Time so far, it looks pretty darn stunning. Between the trippy colors and mind-bending production design, it looks like a real modern spectacle for all ages.

However, if the marketing has been missing the mark, it is in the character department. Apart from some minor plot points, there is very little for audiences to latch onto from a character standpoint. Little was revealed about Meg, her personality, or her motivations, other than that her father was missing.

In this new trailer from Disney, they finally touch on those important aspects. It’s also the trailer in which we see most of Storm Reid’s acting chops in the film. While she isn’t bad, the clips they have of her do seem just a tad bit stiff, though that can also be a result of the way the trailer is cut. Given director Ava DuVernay’s track record, I’m hoping she was able to get some pretty solid performances out of the actors.

Any potential weaknesses aside, I’d say this is their most emotional trailer to date, is the one that will help to actually entice audiences beyond spectacle.
