Aaron Sorkin Wants To Make A Sequel To…The Social Network?

Love him or hate him, there’s no doubt that Aaron Sorkin has been responsible for some premium content out there. From his work on The West Wing and A Few Good Men to stuff like The Social Network and The Newsroom, it’s hard not to at least fall in love for the entertainment value he brings to the table for what could, in anyone else’s hands, be the driest material known to man.

In particular, The Social Network is a film that is particularly near and dear to my heart. To me, it is the melding of two great: Sorkin and David Fincher. These are two talents who should honestly start working together as frequently as possible. It was also a story that was very indicative of the time — the boom in social media and the start of the app gold rush. It was a perfect storm that led to the film winning Best Adapted Screenplay at the Oscars.

But had anyone actually ever thought of the idea of…a sequel? Apparently, Aaron Sorkin himself has, as he revealed to AP:

“I know a lot more about Facebook in 2005 than I do in 2018, but I know enough to know that there should be a sequel. A lot of very interesting, dramatic stuff has happened since the movie ends with settling the lawsuit from the Winklevoss Twins and Eduardo Saverin…I’ve gotten more than one email from [producer Scott Rudin] with an article attached saying, ‘Isn’t it time for a sequel?’”

Now, out of context, this seems silly as s**t, but that’s not to say this is an impossible task. Over the years Facebook has done a pretty good job at staying in the news — both for good and bad reasons. Can you imagine having a film set during the 2016 election? Or maybe in a couple of the instances where they pushed things just a little too far in the early 2010s?

You can pretty much have your pick of a handful of Facebook scandals and center a whole movie around that, give it to Sorkin and hopefully end up with gold. I’d see, that’s for sure. But what about you? Let us know if you’d be up for a Social Network sequel down below!
