Adam Driver Says Ben Solo Won’t Return To Star Wars

Despite some recent rumors to the contrary, the Star Wars Rey sequel is NOT cancelled!

This should come as little surprise but in a recent interview Adam Driver says Ben Solo won’t return to Star Wars. As you are no doubt aware there is a sequel to The Rise of Skywalker in development and Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as lone Jedi Rey. Much as Rey has now adopted the name Skywalker (stupid) her story does not continue the Skywalker Saga. That bloodline ended for good with the death of Ben Solo who sacrificed himself to save Rey.

Much as death is normally the end for most characters, we know that is not always the case in Star Wars. Given that Ben made the sacrifice play and was good when he died, he could come back as a Force Ghost. However, as far as Driver seems concerned, that won’t be the case. Driver appeared recently on the Smartless Podcast and he was asked about that Rey sequel.

“They’re doing stuff, but not with me. I’m not doing any more.”

Asked if that was because Ben’s story has ended, Driver confirmed that to be the case. In all honestly this is no real surprise and I don’t think anyone expected Driver to return. Which, given he was the best character in the sequels, could be disappointing to some fans. Yet, we all know if Ben was somehow able to return in the flesh it would break more rules. Star Wars doesn’t need any more of that. Not after the ill advised return of Palpatine as the bad guy.

As for the Force Ghost angle, I would have no issue lore wise with a Ben Solo Force Ghost. However, unlike Anakin, I would not expect to see that as a physical presence without having had any training. Anakin after all was supposedly unique, and it took Qui-Gon a long time to learn how to manifest.

If the movie focuses on Rey though, then I would not be against some Force vice action. I mean it would be 15 minutes work for Driver in a booth, and probably not cost that much. However, I’m not saying that will happen, just that it could not be ruled out.

What do you think of his comments as Adam Driver says Ben Solo won’t return to Star Wars? Thoughts below as always.
