Afro Awards 2022 kicked off its inaugural recognition in Los Angeles, Calif., this past Sunday.
The ceremony features humanitarian and excellence awards for great and impactful personalities in the global society.
Masika Kalysha (VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood, We TV’s Growing Up Hip Hop) is the ceremony’s host.
The honorees included Harry O’Harrison, Death Row Records creator; Curtis Young, rapper; Ayuko Babu, founder of Pan African Film Festival; Senator Ademola Jackson Adeleke, humanitarian; Tina Weisinger, founder of HAPAwards; Hubert Nakitare, hip hop artist; Lea Cher Pump, owner of The LadyLike Foundation; Rochel Pamphile, CEO of Rocky R&P Entertainment; Dr. Lance McCarthy, humanitarian; Ade James, African legendary photographer; Kandias Conda, owner of Celebrity Brand; Charmaine Blake, owner of Charmaine PR firm; and Madam Lara Okunnubi, philanthropist. Honorees who appeared virtually included Fatima Maada, First Lady of Sierra Leone; Davido aka David Adedeji Adeleke, Nigerian music star; Afro Nation, world’s biggest Afrobeats; and Sam Anwuzia, CEO of Nollywood Entertainment.
Some of the guests at the awards included British Williams, VH1’s Basketball Wives; JoJo Zarur, VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Miami; Brandon T. Jackson, actor; The Cast of Naija Wives of Toronto; Chef Sean, Grammy-nominated artist; Nikki J, artist; Nam Jonez, R&B singer; Septimius The Great, singer; Phil Martin Jr., Grammy-nominated music director; Rom, musical artist; Pascal Posh, artist; Asia Mion, actress; and Tyron DuBose, Afro Awards announcer.
