Agent Coulson Could Return To the MCU Films

What’s the deal with Agent Coulson? Here was a character who started off in the first phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While those first few movies were loose in their connections, Coulson was the glue that kept it all together. I remember back during the MCU marathon leading up to the release of The Avengers, Coulson was the guy they used to introduce each movie.

I remember thinking to myself, “Well, I guess this guy will function as the go-between in all the movies going forward.” Little did I know what the studio had in store for him: Death. Sort of. He was killed off in The Avengers, only to be brought back for his own TV show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

But ever since he’s been on his show, he’s been noticeably absent from the movies. While the TV and film worlds have always been obnoxiously separate from one another…but could Coulson ever come back to the films? More and more, as time has gone on, it seemed like the probability of that was close to zero. However, speaking with EW, S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jeph Loeb gave us a bit of hope.

“It’s certainly something that will get resolved, and it may get resolved in a very surprising way.”

I love hearing this. For years, it’s sounded like the MCU would just ignore the fact that Coulson is alive — and yet somehow that thing that somehow brought the Avengers together is now of zero importance. It felt a bit odd to me, and hearing a confirmation that will be resolved is music to my ears.

How do you hope this will get resolved? Let us know your thoughts down below!
